Sexing Sewellia lineolata

Post by Martin Thoene » Thu Oct 19, 2006 10:48 pm

Well we've already worked out how to sex this species from above once mature, but most often in a shop you'll see their undersides stuck on the glass. So what's the differences from below?

Female is left, Male is right.

Image

Female has very visible vent. Big difference in leading edge profile of Pectoral fins. Male has "shoulders" while female has more gentle curve.

The female pic is from today, the male from not long after I got them. I think his "shoulders" are more pronounced now.

Martin.

He said he would mail me when the manifest came in. No news..... Possibly forgot. It's not midday here yet, so the shipment is probably not in yet. I'll ring him later no fear :D
