Proper sand

What type of sand do you use on the bottom. All I can find around here is the white marine type of sand. I'm using that in the one loach tank and the kuhlis seem to enjoy it but don't borrow in it. They'll pass it thru their gills all the time and try digging down but rarely accomplish anything more than just burying their heads.



I have since added some pygmy swords in the corner area and the floating plants have overgrown everything. I also now use an Indian Almond Leaf in this tank.

I want to make sure that the sand I am using is proper for a loach species. I've seen photos of other types of sand that people are using and I am wondering if the marine type of sand I am using is proper.

Nothing is proper. Your sand is fine. All aquatic sand is safe. There is no *real* sand for loaches.

Yeah he's right you know, personally i would use the fine sand just because i like the look of it LOL

The choice is yours The only caveats being that the sand is not sharp edged and you like it.

I use pool filter sand, myself. It's cheap, rounded, slightly larger grained and not as white. The fish seem to prefer a darker substrate.
