I just picked up one of these


On the side it has a sticker that says do not immerse beyond this point...

So is it not submersible then?

There is some obvious black waterproofing gunk where the electrical cord pipes into the actual powerhead... On the box its above water though...
Kind of confused here... Should I take the sticker seriously? I've never taken them seriously before...

It's running immersed in my Sewellia tank. I don't know if their are model design differences, but I have 802s that have been running immersed for over 5 years.

That's the one I got as a spare still in the box so if it can't be immersed I'll be bummed. Maybe it's just the venturi thingy won't work right if the air intake is underwater...go ahead angelfish, you go first .

Try slamming a quick e-mail off to AquaClear and see what they say.

I had the same issue when I set up my last tank and installed a Jager heater into it. The box said submersible, but the heater had a do not submerse beyond this point line around it.

I sent Eheim/Jager an e-mail and they advised that it was submersible to European standards. They have moved the manufacturing of this product back to Europe and at that point had not yet received approval to call the product submersible in the USA, (they have to reprove it is still submersible to USA standards I guess since they are not making them in the USA anymore).

Might or might not have anything to do with your situation, but can't hurt to contact the manufacturer and check.

As per submersible vs non...

some stuff really IS non submersible...

I've had two bad experiences, luckily both were in empty tanks.

First I used a very oooooold radiant heater from hagen I happened to still have from my attempts at fish keeping in the early 90s.. The manf sticker on this said 1991 and I immersed it.

The whole glass tube filled with water...
Didn't turn it on. I dont imagine the result would have been good.

Also I had an old early 90s fluval internal filter which was made of clear plastic. Said do not immerse.

I immersed it (again no fish) and after about 2 minutes it made a "Pffrszzchwoe" sound and stopped running. When I took it out I was able to pour a good 40ml of liquid out of the motor housing (not sealed I see...)

I followed your advice there Martin with the 'what sticker' approach.

I removed the sticker. Now that it doesnt say 'do not immerse beyond this point' it must be submersible...

I have the same powerhead 20" deep in a tank. I have two samller ones in my river tank completly under.

I have two of those that have been submersed for about 4 years and haven't skipped a beat.

I decided I should look at mine, It's a smaller one than I remembered but no "do not submerge" sticker. I thought I'd take out an UGF plate in the clown tank & put the quick filter to the test. It worked quite well & I may take out the other plate after lunch. Not nearly the mess I was expecting.
