hello

not been around for ages but..

i need to upgrade for my weather loach. would a trigon 190 be ok for long term?
also can you think of any other loaches to go in at a temp of 22-23*c?they will be going in with zebra danios, peppered corys, lake tebera rainbows and possably WCMM's.
also how many inches of fully grown fish can go in there? i only realy know how to stock with regular rectangle tanks.

So its about 50 US gallons. Do you know how long it is along its longest side?

Stocking is going to be the same as for a rectangular tank, but you need to take into consideration the amount of swimming space they'll have.

ok, I looked it up:

Measurements: 99 x 70 x 60 cm

it's kind of little for weather loaches, as far as dimensions go, though as it's deep as well as long it might be ok.
I'm not sure, it's a suck-it-and-see kind of thing as to whether they'll be happy in a short tank. - if you so keep them in there, I'd go for "several", they will definitely be happier that way.

hey i got a surprise from my girlfriend today.
a weather loach...I know nothing aobut them and the info in the profile doesn't really tell me the temp they should be kept at.
Petsmart in a town 4 hours away sold it to her and told her that they are "great with other loaches"
Ya right I can see it now a weather loach with a eos. A match made in heaven
anyhows I read that they can survive really cold temps but I only have tropical tanks at around 80ish.
is this too hot for a weather loach.
I feel kinda funny asking this, after all I have kept the A to Z of loaches (if I use both the common and scientific names

Im sure she meant well... its frowned upon to purchase fish for someone as a gift though IME... it never works out well for the fish. You'll want to get it lots of buddies and keep it at about 22-24 celsius. Not a difficult fish...

Thanks newshound. The new site is only partially constructed. We're moving files over as quickly as possible.

You can view them all at the two extra Forums added here, and the Weather Loach link was the new site which will eventually replace the old Loaches Online site.

It's fully editable by us Mods, so we can keep the information current which has always been one of the pitfalls with the old site. Things change all the time, so this will allow us to morph the site as they do.

Each profile will have a photo search facility at the bottom which allows a user to view all images of that species that are uploaded. It's going to be the best source for loach info bar none once we're finished. Until then, the two sites will co-exist.

What you will find is that navigation around the new site will be multi-directional because it's really easy to set up links.

I've already moved a bunch of Articles over and done some updates with more to come. There's some new articles too, plus some in the pipeline.

I disagree. Books are an entirely.......different kettle of fish

There's no tactile experience with a computer screen. we all wrote the book on computers, but we found the only way to actually effectively edit it and find mistakes was to print it out and hold it in your hands.
A hard-bound book of the text will be a different thing again.

There's something truly special about the experience of reading a book compared to reading the same thing online. Somehow, one gets more out of it.

There's also stuff in the book text that will not appear here. Information on these fish that has never been openly available before. The beauty of the website is that it allows a far more comprehensive collection of photographs to be available. Pictures always take a hammering in the editing process of a book because of cost. Rest assured though, that looking at pictures in a book with the associated text there in your hands is more fulfilling than sitting in front of a screen.

i can't go any bigger because of money and my mum wont let me.(i'm only 14)

i don't know what to do.
i think i might get one. i already have one weather loach and is already 5.5inches in a 30" tank. so a upgrade is needed before it's stunted.
from my calculations this gives me 85" of fully grown fish from the surface area. am i right?
he seem fine by himself but i might get another 1 or 2.
also would, Iksookimia longicorpa, Cobitis striata and/or Lefua costata go with weather loaches and together?

you're looking there really at what the biological capacity is of your tank - that is, what the tank is likely to be able to cope with before it becomes toxic - and inches of fish is an odd one, anyway... I was thinking more along the lines that weathers like a lot of floor space - and length - to move about in. I think my tank actually has marginally less volume than does yours, but it's four foot long and the dojos use all of it.

I have no experience of the other loaches you mention - the c. striata and i. longicorpa look drop dead gorgeous and I would get them like a shot if the opportunity came up, but I imagine they are rare in the hobby. The only temperate water loaches I know of anyone keeping other than dojos are the hillstreams, and in this country at least it is now difficult to import them. I'm having trouble at the moment getting weather loaches to keep my two company - I'm waiting to get to Emma's shop...

your tank footprint sounds ok, I'm just not at all used to tanks that shape

I reckon it's worth a try. but do get more weathers; one is just not kind. they don't school like the botiine loaches, but they do like company.
