Those of us who own Pseudogastromyzon cheni have seen the males go into "warpaint" colour mode during territorial battles.

Today, one of my male Gastromyzon decides to get into it with a Beaufortia. Now anyone who keeps those knows that Beaus never, ever, ever back down. And this was the case here, but the scitulus got himself into a real rage because he wasn't going to give in either.

And he went like this:

After he (of course) had to give ground to the Beaufortia, his rage was such that he took on this male P. cheni, so is sitting trying to look all imposing.

The interactions of these species are so interesting and fun to watch. The Beaufortia actually got pale too, and its dark spots got much darker. I've not seen that before either, but couldn't get a picture.

Martin.

Its cool to see that captured on film. Nice work!
I have seen the same coloration on two of my ctenos engaged in a fight, but its a rare occurrance.
