I got this pic from one of my suppliers. This fish comes out of Sulawesi, from a stream that is about 245 feet about sea level. Any ideas?

Latin:
Balitora brucei (nee
Homaloptera Brucei)
English: Stone Loach,

To me it looks like those little red bits under the pectoral fins might be pelvic fins.
Look how high up on the head the eyes are. I wonder what it would look like from the side.

Fishbase lists 1095 freshwater fish species for Indonesia. You can't get Sulawesi specifically. I do not believe this is a Balitorid at all and TammyLiz, I think you're quite correct that those are the pelvic fins.
That general layout (and i think I'm seeing two Dorsal fins) suggests a Skulpin to me (Cottidae), but I can't see any Cottidae listed for Indonesia Freshwater???

This is not an Anammia? Certainly looks loachish to me.

For me the fact that the pelvic fins are directly under the pectoral fins and the double dorsal fins would point to a member of the Gobidae family.
The pectoral fins do look very Loachy (Homaloptera) shaped but I think to be honest it could be some sort of goby.
I did find a couple of bits on the internet with asian freshwater fish and gobies included, no definate id though

You are absolutly correct! It's not a loach at all, but rather a goby pretending to be a loach. Most likely, it's Rhyacichthys aspro.

I suppose its not called the Loach Goby for nothing
It certainly is a nice looking fish.

Interesting looking fish. I think I've seen pics of this somewhere, but can't remember where.
I guess this is an example of convergent evolution (I think that's what its called)

Emma, I am going to import a number of them, along with some other gobies and shrimp from Sulawesi.
