i've noticed that my morleti flash there spines somethimes... i've never seen my other loaches do this...

is something wrong? the look very good and don't show signs of stress or ilness

or is it just a thing the species do?

Because of there small size, these chaps like to feel big with spine flashes. Most aggressive loaches like to show others that they are not in the mood for playing.

it works one of them flashed when the frenatus chased it around the tank and it stopt right after it...

but will charge again if bugged to much...

the kubotai still go out of the morleti's way but at slower speeds and return right after the morleti is gone again. i think i'll let them stay with the 4 of them in the 500l tank it brings some life in to it. before the kubs rest all day in plain site. now still but they at least move sometimes

they only move when i get in front of the tank and shout feeeed us feeeeed us feeeed us.

or no flash no flash no flash and hide...

... I only saw spine flashing, when I was a youngster and when I put my current clowns into the tank.
It´s really strange that I saw it again TODAY (read your post in the morning, saw clown flashing in the evening ), I only feed left over (small) stuff and during feeding the alpha flashed it about 1/4" beside a smaller one. I was getting ready interfere, but the generic situation was totaly relaxed, no chaseing, they stayd together as nothing happened... the small one did not flash. I right away checked everyone for scars, but everybody allright...
The spines are bent somewhat backwards.

Only flashing I've seen is on the way back from the fish store with my girlfriend when she bought her orange-finned botias... She was wondering why her leg was getting wet...

Turns out that one of them flashed his spines in the bag, punctured the bag, and had it STUCK in the side of the bag! The weight of the water above was pushing out a very fine spray of water.

Since then, both of us have requested double bags with any botias that we bought.

My czechrepublioniclown loaches that martin now has used to spine flash every time they saw a rostrata. Kind of saying "Im in charge, thats all there is to it. Go away"

The ONLY time any of my loaches ever extended the suborbital spine was when they were actually in the net. It's funny, but I've never seen it happen otherwise.

No, just clown loaches. I suspect from Sumatra.

The only time I saw a spine flash was for no apparent reason in a mid pecking order clown. There was no food or even a very nearby fish of any kind. I took it as flexing his muscle kind of thing or maybe it was directed toward me?
