Black Thing

One of my older 7" Clown Loaches has this black thing sticking out under his head. I just noticed it today, pretty sure it was never there before.
I stared at it for a good 15 minutes and it didnt move, Im starting to think its a splinter from the driftwood.
Any ideas or recommendations?

Any chance of providing a photograph of the affected clown? Is any of your driftwood sharp?

I will try to take a pic tonight,
My driftwood isnt that sharp, not that I thought anyways, i thought i might try to tweeze whatever it was off of him, and while i tried to catch him, whatever it was like broke off. So im pretty positive its a splinter.

I have confirmed that it was a splinter, but alas, a piece of the splinter is still stuck in him.
It should get dissolved over time right?

i'm not sure if this is the best thing to do, but if the piece is big enough, try to extract it with some tweezers, just dont prick the loach...
this will make it heal ALOT faster, just like keeping dirt out of a wound will help it heal quicker (hence the wide use of band-aids)
