Sand substrate again

Post by Icewall42 » Sun Jan 14, 2007 12:06 am

So, I decided on Quickrete Fine Sand, which is a commercial grade pure sand for landscaping and such. I liked it over the play sand because this sand was consistent in the size of the grains, and it generally looked nice, and it was really cheap for 50 lb. bags. Was this the right decision? I just picked up the 72 gallon tank today, so it's all ready for me to set up tomorrow (that is, if I decide not to add some sealant to one corner, still deciding).

seal it up while its bare and dry...

if you get a leak when its all setup, you are screwed, you'd have to empty the tank plus tear it all down (in the corner) which would be lame...

dont forget to post pics!!

Everything looks okay, checked and rechecked. I'm rather afraid of doing sealant if it's unnecessary, since I'm not entirely sure how to do it on a tank this big. But like I said, no previous leakage history, and it looks just fine.

Also, I take it that no one objects to my using that type of sand?

The sand should be good if it's nice and clean. That seems to be the main thing - smooth grains and no dust.

Cool, I think I made the right choice then. I'm just overly paranoid about my fish, but that's because I love them so.
