Sewellia in Massachusetts!

I saw my first s. lineolata in person yesterday at Tropic Isle in Framingham. They were bigger, 1.5-2in. TL, & more active than hillies I usually see. The big 1 on the front glass seemed to hang on by his fins with his body held slightly away, is that normal for them? I wish I could get some but I'm not able to set up a river tank (yet) but these are the fish I'll do it for. Very cool.

Yeah, that is normal for them. Lovely aren't they.

Cool Graeme, glad that's normal.
I think they came in only a few days ago, Mike. There were at least 20 I'd say, $16 each. I wouldn't wait if you want some, they're in a bare tank without enough water movement IMO. Between that & their fab looks they won't be there long. Hopefully they'll get them again when I'm more ready
(or maybe you'll need a sewellia-sitter when you go back to school?)

If you get a chance, Nancy, you might want to mention to them at the store that if they want them to live, they might want to increase the flow and O2 levels. Surely, they don't want to kill off a tank full of expensive fish. Since they don't travel well anyway, it is very important that they give them the conditions that they need.

How about giving them a copy of that Hillstream leaflet that some of the LOL regulars produced last year?

They had airstones running & I would have said something but I thought it would have fallen on deaf ears. Only 1 harried worker, lady with several small children & 2 other customers waiting plus browsers like me. I don't know if I've ever seen a powerhead on a stock tank anywhere, I don't see hillstreams all that often. I have mentioned their high oxygen need at other stores but haven't noticed any changes.

Yes I usually try to tell store owners and employers about their needs but they never seem to take it. A shame really, as these fish die needlessly.
