hey, i have found 3 options for the lighting on the 55 i plan on, that i would like to discuss..

1. lighting attached inside a fold-up hood - SEE HERE

2. suspending a traditional indoor fluorescent lighting strip by chains (the type used with hanging flower baskets), i could raise the strip up from the tank by pulling the chains...somehow..maybe i could use some sort of cable and pulley system to raise lighting...who knows...

3. have the 'normal' lighting...ie: putting the strip right on the glass tank cover..

all designs would use a glass or plastic vapor cover over the tank to stop jumping fish and protect lighting fixtures...

heres two pictures of the lighting strip i was looking at, either with the plastic cover or without...the light isnt really that yellow, its just that the light was on while i used high flash...

ONE (without flash)
TWO (with flash)

that fixture is 48" long, i could get a 42" one at the hardware store for cheap..just buy the special aquarium tubes..i was thinking hagen..1 sun-glo and 1 aqua-glo for a good all-round light..
