Post by mistergreen » Fri Jan 26, 2007 12:35 am

i've been on this forum for a while and haven't shown my loach.
Here are the boys.. one is missing from the photos. He much longer and yellowish.

interesting that the flash brought out a pinkish hue on the b. H.

if by luck I can capture my Beaufortia kweichowensis in this tank, i'll post him too (probably not).. it's impossible.

depending on the shot, flash and or a tripod helps. And a little sharpening in photoshop ;) i consider these shots not that great... but i'm always critical of my stuff.

art & design is my bizniz.

Could well be barking up the wrong tree , but at first glance i thought i was looking at young B.kabotai ! its just that the bands seem to be linking on the lateral part of the body , i dont have these but my young Histrionica seem to have straighter banding , as i said though this is just a whim.

i know what you mean, i'm confused to what they are too. The bands shift and change the longer i have them. I'm going by what the fish store told me. They might be hybrids.

i'll post some picts soon. thanks :)

Great tank.

What is the plant on the left side of your tank?

Nice pictures. My initial impression was the same as piggy4's. You might want to review these articles:

I do not believe they are hybrids.

Martin.

it's a mass of sunset hygro polysperma... i'm using it to keep check on algae. I'll trim them when I feel comfortable i have the algae in control. They grow 1 cm a day. so, they're fast growers.

thanks martin, i'll definitely keep an eye on their markings... The one not shown is definitely b. Histrionica. Maybe i got a mix bag of botia and not know it.

Yep, those are almost undoubtedly young B. kubotai. They grow very slowly and it can take a long time for the characteristic oval and circular spots to appear. The give away is the "points" developing in the black bars along the lateral line. That's not something you see in young B. histrionica. How long have you had these little guys?

i've had them 5-6 months now.. I'll try to get the other guy who i think is a b. histrionica but he's camera shy. His stripes are solid and he's yellowish.

and I think hygro polysperma is illegal now.. You won't find them in stores but mostly online.. They're a weed and choking lots of bodies of water down south.

oh, or if you live down south, find the near pond or lake and grab the plant.
