ok so my 180 has a sump
it calculates to 33 gallons
my over flow is rated at 1200gallons per hour

so heres my problem
i bought this used with a full setup
the tank itself was way old i believe 1992 it was made
the little tag on the bottom
so im guessing the little giant pump is really old also
i would like to go with another little giant but there watts are so high im not able to (reason i was gonna sell my tanks/fish)

so i guess what im saying is
what kinda pump should i get for this
how many gallons per hour am i looking for
it dont matter submersiable or inline
the only real factor is watts im looking for around 50
(i will get an FX5 as they are only 50watts per hour)
ive checked fosters and smith and bigals
but bigals dosent have specs to tell you what your getting
and fosters selection isnt all to great

im in the US also

Try Marine Depot and Champion Lighting as well as others.

Avoid Rio and Mag Drive pumps.

I currently use a Gen-X which, after breaking-in, is fairly quiet and it has an external fan for self-cooling.

I know to avoid Rio . . .

but whats wrong with Danner? ( all my pumps are Danner Mag Drive)

p.s. I'd suggest you use two smaller pumps instead of one big one so that if you have a pump go bad you don't lose an entire tank of fish.

I just ordered pumps yesterday for my new loach tank. They are Quiet One 4,000's, rated at 1017gph max at 50W. Any bigger and thier wattage doubles. I have heard good things about Ocean Runners as well and almost bought the 3500 which is rated 900gph and 65W, which is lower than the QO but after a few feet of head the OR catches back up.
