Do I use 1/2 dose on the ick guard II since it is loach safe or so it says on the bottle?

normal ick guard is fatal towards loaches and crustaceans
ick guard II is safe to use with all scaleless fish and crustaceans

i'd think you'd just use the full dose if it is safe for loaches..
half-dosing would only take longer..

Actually, this is not true. In most cases one should half-dose it when used with loaches (as I do), but I know of a successful treatment of clowns with full dose, and I used it at full dose with Balitorides.

It appears that half-dosed Ich Guard is more efficient than full-dosed Ich Guard II; the latter does work too but rather slow; in one case mentioned somewhere on this site it took 2 weeks for full symptom eradication.

Half-dosing Ich Guard II is likely to result in an ineffective medication.

mike, i just read that it may be fatal..i did not actually know that for a fact...

im starting to think that ick guard II is just watered down ick guard...thus giving a 1/2 dose....maybe

I gave a full dose after reading your post brett...going up to check on the guys right now. So wonder what I should do to get rid of this ick. Any suggestions welcome.

I've been using it for a long time. To fish, it is no more dangerous than any other common anti-meds, like most of them it is Malachite Green + something else.

The part about crustaceans I have no direct knowledge about, but suspect also to be untrue.

It is watered down all right, but perhaps a bit too much. As I said Ich Guard at half-dose seems more efficient than Ich Guard II.

brett,

where did you see that it might be fatal? I just went and checked on them and they are doing fine...as a matter of fact the female dojo seems to have perked up just a little.

I spent forever at the LFS today...I printed out Mark's sticky on ick and took it in with me. They didn't have the green or blue stuff he mentions so I had to wing it. I met the owner today and he seems to actually know something about fish, he steered me away from the ick guard and quick cure and steered me towards the ick guard II saying he had used this on his golden dojos before. I forgot to ask if he halfed the dose.

Of course I would like to see quick results, however, I want to keep them all around. So if I have to go a course that takes a little longer then so be it...I am still curious if I need to be halfing the dose and if so like the other gentleman said it would be ineffective.

Let me know what you read or think,
Kris
