Graying Out Question?

My question is do clowns gray out more in groups? I find that most of my loach only gray out in groups.

I notice when my clowns are solo they have a darker color. When they are in groups they seem to gray out more.

I notice even the alpha loach grays out when it is in a group of loaches. It seems to me that all my loaches will gray out a bit when they are all present in a group.

somtimes the alpha loach is the lightest. usually when i am watching they are not fighting. they are usually playing but the alpha becomes a bit lighter in color. but when the alpha has its full color, it is more vivid than the other loach. Would there be a reason why the alpha loach is lightest in color?

I am wondering if this is a dominance or submissive thing?

I know nothing about the graying out other than I have read on this site. I am just looking for some others observations and opinions. Thanks. :P
