saw a few of these at the lfs. 6$ each. is that a fair price. they were about 2" long and 1/4" width. very colorful. with oranges, yellows. greys.

i originally thought this was botia striata but i called big al's and they said it was a red tail tiger loach.

I have been searching in the list but havn't seen the picture of this one yet. I will keep searching!

an average price... if they are healthy and nice specimens and have a place to put them, get a nice group.

Ok, I have been searching through every picture in the list. This one so far is the closest I can find that looks like the loach that I saw.

they wanted 6$ each at big al's. it did not look like any of the tiger loaches i found with this first name Syncrossus in the alphabetical list.

I got my "Red Tailed Tiger Botia" from Big Als here in Toronto. They're Syncrossus berdmorei as you have seen in the other thread.

They also had in "Red-Tailed Sand Loach" that are probably Shistura mahnerti

Martin, I think the store may have mislabeled the loach. If they have these loaches when I setup my new tank I may add 3-5 depending on the growth rate and parameters.
It isn't either of those pictures. I just took a look at the syncrossus berdmorei and Shistura mahnerti but it isn't either of those. it has similar colors as the syncrossus berdmorei but the nose isn't so pointed. it is more smashed like the link i had earlier.

I will have to take a picture next time I go. It appears that the loaches have been there for 3 weeks and there hasn't been a significant decrease in numbers. it is located in one of the more hidden tanks in the store in the corner. So hopefully there will be a few left when I upgrade.

you lucky people who live close to alot of LFS.
I picked up some new modesta's on Tuesday 4 hours away from my home and I noticed one had what looked like the start of vertical lines on the top of its body behind the dorsal fin. Is this lost when it matures?
My old modesta's were largeish at 6 inches before they died and I never noticed any such markings.
