Keeping clowns with sids

Post by loachmom » Tue Feb 20, 2007 1:39 pm

Hi,
I have a 55 gal. tank that houses 6 three inch clowns, four blue gourami, a small pleco, and three swordtails. We have plans to invest in a 125 gal in the near future. Yesterday, I found a fish store about 40 miles from my house that sells ONLY fish. I called them, and they said they have botia sidthimunkis for $11. I'm not sure if my husband will agree that we can get them or not, but if he says, "yes," --do I have room for about six of them--or would they not even be good tankmates for clown loaches?

Thanks :)

You pretty well stocked in the 55g already so unless they are for the new 125g I personally would not get them.

Thanks Beowulf for your reply.
It's good to know that when I do get the larger tank, I can put sids in it. I think I would like them, and I love my clowns.

If you are going to keep all 6 of those loaches, 125g wont be enough room. You have that 55g way over stocked with fish. If you dont buy a bigger tank within a year you wi9ll stunt the loaches growth. I have about 2-3 years of expericance with thanks, im not an expert, but i do not reccomend getting any more fish, and you get a 125g. You willl have to loose and give away some of your loaches in a few years. You should beable to keep 3-4 when their big. Have fun with your aquarium!!!! :D
Let loaches live on!!!!

Do you really think I'm way overstocked?? :? This is the first I've heard this opinion.

Feeding time may become a bit of a problem. Larger clown loaches do get quite boisterous when food enters the aquarium, and the Y. sidthimunki, being such a small size, are likely to get shoved around a bit and may end up missing out on their share. If it were me, and I wanted both species, I'd set up separate tanks for them.

Thanks, Emma, for your reply. I think now that I won't get any sids until I am able to house them separately. I would worry too much over the little guys, and my family already thinks I worry enough about the clowns I have. :) I'll just have to admire Mad Duff's great photos. I am looking forward to going up to the new store, just so I can see the little guys in action.

I would agree with Emma, the best way to keep Sid's is in a tank of their own if you really want to see the best of them.

And if your as lucky as me a huge shoal looks really GREAT :D
