Well I just wanted to thank everyone for their help. I also wanted to thank everyone who made this site. It really has helped me and educated me further than I could have found in any book. I originally was a misinformed aquarium enthusiast who bought a clown to kill 300 snails. Two weeks later the snails were gone! I became so hooked on the loach that I bought 3 more. I loved the way they lay on their side and play all day long. And they always beg for food. Its hillarious.
I didn't find this site until two years of owning loaches. I had 4 loaches in a 35 gallon tall aquarium. It was higher than longer and the floor area wasn't that large. I changed the loaches into my 55 gallon and setup the tank solely for their requirements. I am currently searching for a 75 gallon tank in which I may setup a river tank design. So far the loaches have been loving everything that I have done for them from good suggestions by you folk!

I have added a few things to the loach tank as well as taken many pointers to help better take care of my loaches. A few weeks after the tank move the loaches are now starting to perk up and be themselves again. I am starting to get daily loachy dances! They all seem to be very playful and come out at all times of the day. The loaches have always been a little skiddish when I get too close but lately they have been lettting me stick my face right up to the glass without running away. If I make any sudden moves they bolt for a minute but come out a few minutes later.

At first I was finding that my 3 biggest loaches were not coming out during the day. After a week they started coming out in the morning. And now, all 3 have been coming out quite often. They figured out the new 3-5 time daily feeding schedule and they are on it like white on rice.

The blue moon light has allowed the loaches to gain more of my trust as well. I sit and watch them very late at night with my face right in front of them. They do not swim away or hide. They look right at me. They are a bit more bold in the blue moon light than during the day but even during the day they have been more trusting.

what were you using there to feed them the bloodworm?

Them colours are not inviting! (substrate wise)

cool tank. Don't worry about the gravel until you decide to tear down the tank. I'd for something more natural too.

I bought it at big al's petstore. you can place bloodworm cubes, shrimp and it stays near the top. the loaches play and peck at it. it cost about 1.50$. I am not sure the name of it but its near the feeding section at big al's aquarium store. It is basically a piece of plastic with a mesh type design with holes big enough for small pieces of food to get through.

yeah the new tank will have something more natural color. probably light sandy brown colors. with some larger rocks as well.

it's called a worm feeder.. It's used for feeding live worms. The idea is that the worms have a chance to fall and the fish to eat it before it can wiggle itself into the substrate where it might die.
