New arrivals, plus other stuff

Post by Emma Turner » Thu Mar 01, 2007 2:24 pm

Some lovely new loaches arrived with us on Tuesday evening, and as promised, here are some pics:

Lepidocephalichthys thermalis....

I also received what was supposed to be a bagfull of Sinogastromyzon wui, although only a small number turned out to be correctly identified. These are proving to be very shy and are difficult to photograph!....

(note the nosey Schistura in the neighbouring tank!):

Underside shot....

I'll keep trying for better side on and overhead shots of these chaps before they go on sale.

Then there's these beauties which were labelled by the supplier as Vietnamese Homaloptera sp (Homaloptera 'danang'). To me, these look to be identical to the fish I kept up until last year that HH once identified for me as Annamia:

I'm going to be tempted into getting myself some more of these!

I also received some lovely little Characidium steindachneri, which, although a characin, look very loach-like:

The downside is that the supplier only sent me 5 (!!!) of those! :x I'm trying for another Characidium species next week, so we'll see if they turn up.

Whilst wandering about with my camera I also managed to get a few nice pics of an obliging Gastromyzon from the 'mixed Gastro' tank, which I think may be G. ocellatus? I'm sure Martin, Jim & co will be able to say for sure:

Yunnanilus brevis:

And finally, some 'little rays of sunshine', the golden Weather Loaches (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus):

More photos of the new additions will no doubt follow over the next couple of weeks.

Hope you enjoyed looking through them! :D

Fabulous, Emma :D

You get some of the nicest lookin' fishies....all plump and healthy :)

I love the little Characidium steindachneri. I've seen those ONCE and I'm fairly sure they were a contaminant in something.....should have gotten them :?

Beautiful, beautiful pictures. Those Yunnalilus brevis pics are Em  inently bookable yanno. Lovely setting, fish, etc. I'm sure Mark may drool at those. It's a species we ought to include.

In fact every one of those pics ought to be uploaded into the appropriate place you know where Em

Martin.

Thank you all! :D

I've uploaded the Y. brevis pics to the species index and will do some of the others in a bit. Martin, if you'd like the full size photos, just let me know.

KhuliKhilla, the Lepidocephalichthys are members of the family Cobitidae, sub-family Cobitinae. I believe there are currently 15 described Lepidocephalichthys species. Me and Graeme (and now MD by the sounds of it! ) are big Lepido fans. They are peaceful, pretty, and always seem to make themselves known when you look into their aquarium. 8) I've had L. thermalis in before, but this batch are slightly larger and arrived in much better condition than any I've had in previously.

I was just nosing about on Fishbase for something else and noticed that they list L. thermalis as Lepidocephalus thermalis rather than Lepidocephalichthys thermalis. Is this definitely the most up-to-date name? If so, we should we should probably adjust the name in the species profile.

Beautiful pictures as always Emma!

Looks like I am going to have to get my map out and find a nice route to your shop...Although I would probably be far too tempted and it is possibly safer to stay home :D

Very true, Emma. It seems that the original combination has two new combinations which Fishbase states the Lepidocephalus thermalis is the valid one. I just noticed the other day that the Lepidocephalichthys pristes is now the Kottelatlimia pristes, so i think we should go with FishBase for now.
