i had no idea that a loach can jump and strong enough to go through a glass top and lighting fixture to end up on the floor next to my tank.

oh well, lesson learned.

Poor 'lil guy!

I've had this happen. Its led me to drain half the water from a holding tank and put wood and rocks on top to keep the little dudes in!

very sorry for your loss, its never easy. I had one weather loach get out of a small gap left for an air line once.

What a shame, and such a handsome big guy he was.

Is there a gap between the glass top and the filters? Could be he jumped through it.

One time, my biggest clown (about 6") accidentally jumped all the way through an empty water bridge into an empty tank. I rescued her within a few minutes after it happened though. This clown hasn't went through a water bridge since and that was about 4-5 months ago. I think this is good proof that fish have memories of their experiences.


Martin had a loach that jumped from one tank to another tank that was standing right next to it.

So where did you get the big clown loach from? and how many do you have now? You never got back to us after the last time you posted.

there are no gaps anywhere. it was strong enough to push through.

i got this from a wholesaler. i split the bag with my buddy so i got 5 the same size. now i am down to 4. now my search begins again for some more big CLs.

poor guy. i heard a loud bang the other night and i could have sworn the loach cracked the glass. he went full speed 4' of length right into the glass. they are quite strong swimmers. so i wouldn't doubt they could get some air and force out of the aquarium at full speed. is that 9inches or 9cm?

Its a westcott, there made in the USA (chicago I think) so prob inches. though I thought that to as most I have seen at 9 inches are fatter then they are long (I know, I need a hoby, but it also says it on the ruler and I use to live by chicago, so cheating maybe )

Yeah from the picture if the ruler weren't present I would think he was around the size of my 2.5" loaches. He was a skinny guy. Sorry for your losses!

I keep thinking that, though he mentioned it was a bulk buy from a dealer, so it could be why. Seems to me all fish I buy come in quite thin, even from breeders and such. Guess they get fat old and happy in a stable aquarium

I agree they are always so thin but give me a week and i will fatten them up!

lol Mine never fill out til they are around 3 inches it seems, though they eat like they should.

my bunch are quite skinny compared to others i've seen on loaches.com. hopefully in short time it will get nice and fat.

I keep thinking mine must have some weird eating disorder, they chow like no ones business, but stay so thin I am envious!
