Hi all. I have a 200 litre tank containing two koi, two ryukin, two shubunkin, one black moor and two weather loach.

I have had one of the loach for about 4-5 years now and recently introduced the second loach.

Similar to another thread, my older loach has suddenly become fatter, amazingly round compared to before.

can I assume that she is carrying eggs, and what do I do next??

Do I seperate her into an egg catcher? Do i place her and the male together until such time as the eggs are laid in the same catcher tank?

Does she bare live young???

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi KelticPaddler - welcome to Loaches Online. :D

Weather (Dojo) Loaches are egglayers, and spawning is very rare in the home aquarium. The following account may be of interest: http://www.tfhmagazine.com/default.aspx?pageid=201
If you scroll down to 'Lucky With Loaches' (near the bottom of the page) there is an account of Sally Boggs's successful spawning of Migurnus fossilis and Dean Majorino's apparent subsequent success with Misgurnus anguillicaudatus.

wow! That recommended article was very interesting. If you have an interest in breeding KP good luck!
My loaches were simply over eating. :?
p.s. Happy St. Patrick's Day over there in Ireland!
Hopefully, it's not just a dumb American thing.
