Algae Bloom - Will Additive Hurt My Clown Loaches ?

My water is green. This happened once before and I was able to clear it up by draping towels over the tank for a few days. That isn't working this time. I found an additive at the LFS that can be used for algae blooms, but I want to make sure it's not going to hurt the clown loaches (or the tetras) before I use it. Or, do you have any other suggestions.

Maybe some folks here have had experience with these additives, but I'd steer clear of them and try some alternate routes. Algae tends to bloom when the water parameters are off kilter. I would begin doing a series of 25% water changes over the next several days, with the tank lights off all the time.
Make sure the water going into the tank is at the right levels and temperature. You may need to repeat the process.
It would totally suck to add some algae killer and end up sacrificing your fish.

Might be time to think about a UV sterilizer since the problem has happened before.
