Thank-you Graeme

I suppose you couldn't tell me if its male or female

My guess would be
female. How large is this specimen? Juveniles can be difficult when defining the sex. I'm sure Martin/Jim/Les can confirm this.

An inch and half at the most. Very very bossy! The little beast bosses a 2.5inch
Beaufortia kweichowensis with ease

very entertaining to watch.

Yup
cheni female. At 1.5 inches viewed from underneath you should see tupercules projecting either side of the nose which increase in size during breeding times. Can't see those here, so the best guess is female.

I hope so! Hillys are hard to come by around here and usually come in with goldfish in the few stores that have them, any suggestions of were to get a wider range of species would be appreciated
Thank-you Martin for the link, eaiser to understand now! Seeing as she seems like a typical lady ie 'bossy'
On another note, I have just been informed that one of the forktails has been spotted feeding on pellets

Very nice looking fish, from what i can see it looks like that one has quite a brightly coloured dorsal fin which is always nice to see :-) The behaviour sounds spot on for Cheni too, an entertaining fish, ours always seem to have something going on be it foraging for food, leaf surfing or playing king of the stone.
Peterborough is definitely a good bet for all kinds of hill stream loaches. Emma might even have some cheni in stock if you are looking for some companions for yours (i thoroughly recommend a few more!), last i heard they were not shifting all that well amongst the vast array of more exotic loaches on display.
Please keep us updated,
LES..

Hikari carnivore pellets? Superb!
I think Friday April 20th is on the cards for a meet up at Emma's store. I should be driving down with Matt and Mark (Mad duff) is traveling down with Joy. Also i think Les and Susan are trying for a visit. Helen also likes to meet up. You and your BF should come down and meet up with us
