combining meds
Hello,
My dojo is still very sick and when I was at the LFS they told me to use Nitrofurazone in conjunction with the Kanamycin.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks,
Krista

I guess too late to be of help, but still my 2c.
Firstly, sorry for the loach.
Secondly, it is quite likely to be columnaris indeed (aka flex).
Kanamycin+Furan is indeed one of the recommended "strong" treatments.
Some personal experience: I've been battling flex before and continuously since November --- an interesting case which so far did not kill any fish directly but refuses to be cured....there is some very interesting things I discovered about flex and may mention later.
As for Kanamycin, it was one of eight drugs that proved to be fully useless, and it wiped out the biofilter too.
Furan is often efficient, but not always.
Now, clean up the tank and add mild antiseptic or use a UV since columnaris may linger for long time on other, non-symptomatic fish.
Generally, loaches are very resistant to flex, and should not readily get it if the tank is maintained more or less properly...even if the bacteria is present in large amounts. This is NOT the case with many dither species, who can quickly succumb to flex even in good conditions. That you dojo died would indicate something wrong with the fish or the tank...you may want to reexamine the way you maintain the tank as the first priority.
