thanks. yeah they need a bigger tank soon. i been lookin at 75 and 90 gallon tanks. im thinking 90 but don't know if i have the room but i know i have to upgrade more eventually.

If you're looking at 90 you may as well go 125.
Can't find it right this second, but there's a link to a very good place for tanks that was posted not too long ago-- a couple of times actually. I'll look for it later...gotta run!

Glasscages.com maybe? They used to be way better priced than LFS, now their prices have risen, but still comparable and much better quality. If your going to go through the hassle of setting up a bigger tank, its best to just get the big one. Just a matter of what you can afford though. On glasscages one of their best deals is their 135G, its just a skinny 6 footer though and is still to small for a good size group of adults. The other thing would be used tanks, and you could check out craigslist.org .

yeah i can't afford anything larger than a 90 at this point. nor do i have room. i always checkup on glasscages.com but i have found comparable prices local without shipping. the closest show they have is nearly 4 hours away as well. saves time and effort to get a tank locally. checked craigs list as well. no luck as of now. no local tanks for sale. i found a few for decent prices but after i move, i will be in full swing looking for a tank. i have a good month to go before this happens.

Keep your eye open for local newspaper classifieds too. From time to time you will see tanks listed...

I always see tanks for cheap on Craigslist.

I have a related question to large tanks. Are there any different issues with filtration, or is it simply going to the larger aquaclears or cannisters, etc... Is a sump a requirement, or just a bonus on a 125 or thereabouts.

There are larger canisters that can be used with bigger tanks. And when dealing with large tanks if canisters are used, often they are used in pairs. Sumps are a whole different ball game, and have several advantages (plus a few disadvantages). They are better suited for larger tanks, but sometimes you see them on smaller tanks too. IMO the main advantage of a sump is that you can more effectively DIY the entire thing saving a lot of money compared to purchasing high end canisters or even commercial sumps. If your not good at DIY'ing I would probably stick with a pair of good canisters since it will cost a good chunk of change to buy the whole thing (but many do, I guess its not much different than an expensive canister setup).

FWIW there would be lots of canister options for a 125, thats not too big for canisters at all. But they do start getting pricey.
