loach safe medication

Post by KLKelly » Thu May 17, 2007 1:22 pm

On a few other forums, people often have many types of loaches in community tanks with a variety of fish. Most forums consider them "scaleless fish" and there is confusion on what to treat the tank with.

Ideally you would take ou the sick fish into QT - but what if it is something you need to treat the whole tank for?

What is the rule of thumb for the more common loaches (dojo/weather and clown loaches for example) in treating a tank. Are all medications safe?

Examples of common medications in Canada/US:
*aquarium salt
*quickcure (formalin/mg)
*maracyn (maracynI, II and Plus)

Is it 1/2 dose or can they handle full doses? Anything to steer clear of entirely?

I noticed levimisole (sp) in the articles and was kind of surprised that this was a drug they could tolerate.

Maracyn and Maracyn 2 can be dosed at full strength with loaches. I am not familiar with Maracyn Plus so I can't speak to that.
