Meet Mary Ellen! *Pic of new weather loach*

Post by Munkee » Mon Jun 04, 2007 6:00 pm

Today I went to the LFS to kill some time and look around. I found a lovely Weather Loach at a terrific price. I resisted the impluse to buy it for a short while. I ended up going back later in the day and buying it anyway.

I was shocked to find that the staff member of this store actually knew a thing or two was helpful! She asked me if I knew anything about the fish, I said, "Yes I have two others at home". She said "So I guess you know this is a coldwater fish that likes to be with it's own kind." Then bagged up the fatty for me.

I am sure of the sex, but it sure is a fatty!!

My son named the fish "Mary Ellen" after his teacher.

Pardon my dirty glass, I am due for a weekly water change and monthly glass scraping tomorrow. Sorry the photo is not so hot, hard to photograph things through a bow front sometimes.

wow, that is one big weather loach :D

his name has made me get a song by Deep Purple stuck in my head

dont worry about the quality of the photo - its hard enough to get photos in a rectangular tank. its always good to see people's fish. your photo isnt as bad as you might think :D

Thank you all so much for the lovely comments and the welcome.

I did manage to get a slightly better photo of Mary Ellen, and in this one you can see my golden dojo, and my common spotted whom, is hiding on the rock in the corner.

I'm wondering if this may be Misgurnus mizolepis.

Martin.
Funny you should post that link I was just about to post it myself. After looking at the loach I have further, I do believe it's misgurnus mizolepis.

Could we possibly use your pictures in the species profile? That picture currently there is the only one we've got.

I think it's great that you got good advice from the store. What was the name of it?

Absolutely you may use the photo. Do you need the original to work with, or is that one ok? Let me know how to get the original over if you need it.

The store was called "Magic Isle Aquarium" located in Centereach, NY.

I also got this shot of "Mary Ellen" today. It came out better than the others. Feel free to use it for the species photos if you like.

I think Mary Ellen is just adorable. I especially like her cute face in the second picture.
