Loaches Online Forum

Has anyone tried or had experience with Pakistan/Yoyo Loaches in hard water.
I know Clown Loaches can be acclimatised to hard water as I already have several in with my Malawi Cichlids.

I ask because I have 4 B.almorae which are about 9cm which I really like in my planted tank and don't want to sell them.
The trouble is they up-root my plants all the time which I find very frustrating.
I am thinking of putting a plastic mesh around the roots of all my plants but this would be a tedious and all day job.
If I can put them in my Tropheus tank that would be great as I have a big snail problem in there .
Any personal experiences would be appreciated.

Personally I would consider leaving the Yoyo's where they are and possibly moving the Clowns in with them, Clowns and Malawi Cichlids is not a good mix

A lot of things can be acclimatised. But I dont see the benefit of that, in fact, I dont see anything positive in that.

I will give away for example my clowns in near future because I cant offer them stronger current in tank, and I am doing my best to low down pH. Water is from pipe = hard.

I don`t see the beauty of tank as a small part of nature in my apartment, if species living in the tank, are "surviving" and not living optimal lives. I couldnt enyoj my hobby if and when that is the fact.

More I learn about Clown Loaches, more i believe they are doing best in tanks, made, maintaned and inhabitet "only" for them and by them.

Just personal oppinion

i used to have my loaches in hard water, and wouldnt go back to it. they seem so much happier now i have got the hardness and pH neared to what is best for them.

im afraid you may have to accept your yoyos wrecking plants. thats part of keeping loaches is about. anubias and java fern survive, but mine wrecked a BIG bit of anubias on wood i bought, which had been established in a friend's tank for 5 years...

acclimatised isnt the same as thriving, in my opinion.

i am more concerned about your laoches being kept with the cichlids. its completely unnatural, and the 2 groups of fish have such different behaviour patterns, they are completely incompatible. sorry to put it bluntly. and i dont agree with having loaches just for snail control. most of mine never touch snails, so you could find it a pointless thing to do if yours have fussy taste buds
