How many dojo loaches

can I comfortably fit in a 75 gallon? I have three now, recently one of my golds did the dive of death while we were gone on a all day family outing. I had to go quite a ways (85 miles!) to get that pair and want to make the gas money worth it if I do it again and get 2-3 of them to replace the one.

The tank is rather empty as currently occupied by only 3 dojo loaches, 1 albino rainbow shark, 4 albino cories, and 3 apple snails. I would increase my cory school too but nobody seems to carry them anymore. Does anyone know how many of each I could safely increase my tank load to? I was thinking about 4-6 more cories since I know the store I bought my gold dojos at will have them.

I would say given the adult size of dojos, that 4 would be the most you could fit comfortably. As for the cories, I don't see why 4-6 more would cause a problem. That is if you don't add the 4th dojo. You seem to be ok on stocking at the moment, I don't think this would overstock you. It's really a case of one more dojo, or 6 more cories. If you want to you could probably go for one dojo and 3 cories.

Munk, that seems a pretty conservative estimate to me?

edit:

hit send before I finished, oops.

It's a pretty big tank, and cories aren't going to add a huge amount to the bioload, surely? I think I might be a bit more worried about the shark harrassing them, but I'm not a shark person, so I might be making that up.

True, I always like to understock to be safe.

A 75 is 4 feet right? It gets gallons by height, not footprint. I reckon 4 sounds about right as 4 feet is the minimum length suitable for adult weather loaches. Remember these guys can get up to 10 or 12 inches.

I think you;re right about teh amount of dojos, Martin; I was just thinking that even with four dojos it ought to be fine to add a few more cories, no?

I dont really understock tanks very well so you can probably guess what I am to say, but even at 12" long 4 dojo's and some cories is probably going to amount to less than half the bio load in my 75G currently... so it just sounds a bit on the lite side but of course thats not a bad thing.
