My little Sids are not gaining weight, and they've been very shy (not coming out to eat, etc) the last couple of days. I didn't dose with Levimasol during quarantine, like many of you recommend, because I couldn't find it.
Fish stores have never heard of it
Feed & Seeds (where I used to go to buy horse dewormers) don't stock it
Where should I be looking?
I already have quite a pharmacy of antiparasitics: PraziPro, Formalin, Paraguard, Aquarisol. Are any of those worth trying?

thanks - I was really hoping to find a store that carried it locally so i could treat right away, but this is probably the best i can do.

If you were supposed to have six Sids in a heavily planted 55g, but you can only ever find four, would you worry? I've rustled through the plants trying to flush them out (and look for bodies), and I've checked the filter... No signs. There's tons of places for them to hid, but I just think it's weird that I consistently count four.

I can't find it in my area stores either. I just had a thought that maybe a large animal vet might be able to supply some--a vet that works with farm animals. Worth a try.

Smaller fish, like kuhlis and rosies, I gave up on counting totally. I see no bodies, and locating them all is too much of a major effort...

Before we bought our first Kuhlis, we constructed an elaborate system of tunnels and caves. Introduced the fish, didn't see them for a while, and started to panic because I was imagining dead bodies rotting in tunnels. I ended up digging everything up because I couldnt stand it! Turns out they never went in the tunnels anyway - they just liked to squish between the rocks and the back glass.
Now I have 16 (or maybe 17) Cardinal tetras waiting in quarantine. New motto: "no bodies, no problems!" I can't tell most of them apart, not to mention trying to count them!

I had a totally crazy story with disappearing schisturas.... no trace, no body, no place to hide, one day there, the next day gone,...
... and then reappearing a month later.
On counting sids: here is how I count the rosies: their favorite food is crushed flakes, very small fragments, if I let them starve for like twelve hours, and then drop the flakes, they will all show up. The problem is that they move too fast to be able to reliably count all, even if all are visible. Something makes me think that the same approach may work with Sids, maybe using bloodworms instead.

That's what started this thread in the first place! I've been pulling out every kind of food I have - including frozen bloodworms, and they wont' come out to eat. It's only been the past 4 or 5 days; before that they were really entertaining at mealtime.Something makes me think that the same approach may work with Sids, maybe using bloodworms instead.
I do see them foraging a bit (in the background though, not where the food falls), and no one looks ill from what I can tell. But they're slim and I'd like to see them eating. So, Levamisol. Not sure that's the answer, but it's something to try.

Oh I'm totally happy with them! It was between Kubs and Sids, and we went with Sids because we could have more of them in the same size tank. Only six now, obviously, but I've got my eye on a few others. Just waiting for the LFS to get tired enough of them that they'll drop the price for me They've been there for ages, because nobody is going to pay $30 for a 1 inch fish!
I have a soft spot for little fish in general. I love the way these guys move - really fast and choppy, and always stopping on a 45 degree angle. They also interact a lot with the zebra danios. And our lone SAE (we have another one waiting to join the tank) thinks he's an honorary Sid.

Yes, sids and sae's should look quite nice...something to think about.
I was hoping for a while for a Kubs+Striata tank, and there are eleven Kubs that are waiting for it in three tanks here.... but no Striata. Otoh, the Sids I saw last week were quite good and only $7, so maybe it should be Kubs+Sids instead.
