I just got my first ever dojo loaches, about 4 inches long, one specked and one golden but not that yellower one.

they are fabulous! I am so in love! I thought guppies were playful! wow! these dojos just love the 75 gal tank, and swim and play together and perch on the rocks and move alot! they are so neat! so much personality! not afraid, just loving life!

I only got two and they play together so well, and lay next and on each other etc. I think they are two males, not sure. I am just wondering if two will be enough, or if I get more, should I get one more, or two..... and should I try to pair them up so they won't fight, or don't worry about that?????

I plan to put other smaller loaches in the tank and smaller clowns (four or 5), move out the guppies, and then will upgrade to a 90 soon! (wish I had those extra inches for the dojos to go up and down on the side already :?

when the times comes, I will have to trade in the 2nd tank - 55 - for another 90 gallon...... :roll:

I was going thru the species index, I have a chinese weather loach and common spotted apparently. Right now they are in their cave together. They really like each.

Just wondering if the number of males to females or all males except one female becomes an issue.

Sure is with guppies and I have 24 males guppies, no females. Apparently the loaches won't spawn in my aquarium. Wonder if they will still "play all the games" though, like posession of females, fighting over them.....

Anyone have any experience with this?

Also, looks like there are several variety of the long weather type loaches. Maybe I should get more of them..... variety?

you won;t be able to put different kinds of loaches with the weathers; the temp requirements are different. dojos require much cooler water.

you might like khuli loaches too.

I think the poster meant different kinds of weather loaches....

Of non-weather, a number of brookstream loaches should be ok too.

must have misinterpreted this, then

dojos don't come from high flow environments - or even medium-flow environments, so I'm not sure they'd be ideal companions for brook loaches, either?

On brookstreams: it is possible to set up a tank so that some areas have more flow than others. I did this on small scale, but I've seen a 150g done so that one side has high and another side has medium flow, and the fish tended to use the part of the tank that is more comfortable for it. Some brookstreams seem to do fine with fairly little flow, as long as temp is low and O2 is high.
