What have you found to be the best loaches to be with american cichlids (not african).

This would be for a 75 gallon tank.

I was thinking skunk loaches, yoyo loaches, or modestas... they all seem to have attitudes that would work well with green terrors, jack dempseys, mayans, convicts, ect

(I dont' have the tank set up yet... so idk exactly which cichlids are going in it)

dbcb314,

I would be very careful in mixing those species .. the level of aggressiveness in most chichlids is way too high for anything that isn't a cichlid itself.

That beeing said I have 3 angelfish in my loach tank which seem to have hardly any problem with the 1600 l/h flow nor the loaches, which they almost completely ignore. The loaches do try to nibble at their fins every now and then, though.

I have kept chiclids and I have kept many Botia's and other loaches and I would never combine them, too many differences in set-up and personality. With chiclids catfish only but loaches should be considered a specie tank much the same as you would with chiclids. Convicts should be kept with nothing but convicts and are one of the worst fish IMO to keep except for a food source and they are a poor one of those except for Oscars to reduce costs of feeding......

you can mix many species of SA cichlids with loaches.. apistos, angels, firemouths, rams, kribs, etc

anything other than those kind of cichlids wouldnt be highly recommended (jack dempseys, convicts, midas, etc)
