Heyas,

after I did the bi-weekly waterchange today and cleaned the glass I thought it would be a good time to take a few pictures of my clowns. This is what's left of 88 shots. I hope you enjoy!

Really beautiful skin colour.




Note the tubercules around the eye. Do you see the green sparkles? More of those later.

Any idea what those green sparkles are? It's quite visible, esp. on this particular loach.

The one in front is my alpha loach. Note the white scratches in the middle band.


"It must be here somewhere ..."


Anubias barleti var. nana ... a loach- and cichlid-proof plant. Not.

Nice pictures of sparkly Clowns. The green sheen showed up nicely. All your fish look lovely and healthy. That striata is really beautiful.

Beautiful pictures, connor. I always love it when the photo manages to capture the 'glittering' appearance, I have a couple of nice pics of Y. morleti and Y. eos like that.

The 'tubercles' you mention around the eye of the clown are actually sensory pores.

Connor, you have lovely loaches!

My first thought when I saw the gold dusting on their bodies was that they had velvet. But I'm new to all this, and I've never seen velvet before.

My anubias looks just like yours. Every time a new leaf starts to form, they bite lots of holes in it.

Almost! The trick is to suspend the fish in Formalin first and then super-glue them into position quickly.
Aside from that a day without food works wonders.

Thanks for the correction. Is there actually any scientific knowledge what exactly those sensory pores are for?

Thanks! I just wished I could make better pictures of my striata .. the flash cancels out their very delicate colouring quite a bit .. the "blueish stripes" are mostly lost when the flashlight hits them.

I have 5 botia striata in my tank. They shoal together quite a lot so I would say having 5 or more is a good idea. One word of caution though: These little guys are quite bossy - quite a bit more "aggression" (or inquisitive curiosity ) amongst each other and towards other fish than what clown loaches typically show. In fact my alpha striata dominates all my clowns - even the alpha clown which is probably 3 times the mass.
