Will loaches die from eating certain snails?

Post by LoachOrgy » Thu Jul 05, 2007 9:41 pm

Is there a certain type of snail that will kill loaches if they eat it?

I recently gave them a few snails that a friend gave us. the snails shells have stripes on them. these snails doubled their size in a week. that is the only other thing i can think of that is giving my loach problems right now. they were put in the tank more than 4 days ago.

Any snail can kill loaches. (Snails can carry a lot of different infections.)

However, I'd consider Ammonia at > 1.0 as you have now to be the far more likely reason for the problems.

Mike, could i get you to elaborate on this. I have some snails that I am worried may have caused this. Although I do not know, I would rather find out before I feed more of them to my loaches. The snails are getting double their size in a weeks time. They have brown stripes on the shells. I will try and get a picture up later tonight.
