31$ 1" yoyo at petsmart

highway robbery i must say. the guys were so small that I wouldn't have even attempted to buy one. the clowns were also 10$ and were all under size as well. all had skinny disease and they were feeding the loaches and all other fish in the store with those 3 day white bottom feeders. horrible!

I bought my yoyo's at less than 1" in early 2006 ($3 per fish). They got to nearly 3" within 3 months...so size or even being skinny is not an issue with yoyo's. They are all around 4" now...

Of course, it would work even better in Toronto.

yes they have the yoyos at a lfs down the street for 5$ each at about 2" each. but i just thought this was an outragous price.

I noticed that the prices were standardized with the other branch so any theory about managers setting prices seems wrong. Their POS labelling is pre-printed with that price for the species.
There were minor variations, but generally their prices are way higher for most species than anywhere else.

All branches have Yasihikotakia modesta for over $9 yet Zebra Danios are a cheaper than most places @ 59c

Stock seems almost cloned from branch to branch and a large proportion of the species sold are either not beginner's fish or are tank-busters that will outgrow most aquaria in no time. Why does every branch stock numerous varieties of Oscars and how come they all have 6" Channel Cats?

I'm not a big fan of petsmart but don't they have a no wild caught fish policy? (good for them!)

Maybe their supply of farm raised yoyos are really low.

Few things about PetSmart:


1. Prices are standarized and will usually not vary.

2. Stock of is usually from the same store to store as well.

3. The "no wild caught" policy only applys to birds and small animals, not
fish and herps, which is quite unfortunate.

4. Prices are almost always higher at PetSmart for livestock.

Standardized... hmmm.... I dont think i've ever seen a Yoyo that expensive at petsmart, though I cant remember off hand how much they usually are. Might have to check. The only loach they sell there that seemed very expensive to me is the kubotai or as they list 'Angelicus Loach' which as I recal is normally 19.99 though I've seen it onsale before there for cheaper.

I seem to recall that the Yoyos I saw at my 3 local Petsmarts were about CDN$7.99.....nuts price compared with the local "norm". They were however in good condition, though small.

Prices are set by corporate and will not vary unless corporate decides to do so (usually when they will stop selling them). They can easily vary by store. For example, the PetSmart up the road has the "Angelicus Botia" for $9.99 while ours is $21.39 and they won't lower our price, and there's not much the store can do about it.
