I love that you are keeping 9 yoyos - I think any Botiine loach in numbers more than five are a good bet, and no doubt very entertaining. The castle thing is not to my taste, personally, but it seems to serve the fish well by offering lots of nooks and crannies.

Ever thought of going a little more natural in your decor? It's the only thing I can suggest to improve what looks like a good tank. And kuhlis love natural - get some grass-like plants growing in there and watch the kuhlis flourish.

Hey Mark,
This is my idea of a "fish-only" tank.
Ever thought of going a little more natural in your decor? It's the only thing I can suggest to improve what looks like a good tank. And kuhlis love natural - get some grass-like plants growing in there and watch the kuhlis flourish.
I don't think I can get much to grow in this tank other than low-light
(Java ferns, anubus, etc.) and floating plants. as I only have the single
flouresent light. Right now I have some Java ferns (just getting established), two potted lotus plants (every leaf and lilly pad has holes in them) and a bunch of floating Anacharis (I grow it by the truckload outside in the Koi pond) which needs replacing every month or so.
If you look at part 3 of this series of posts, you'll see my natural-looking (?) planted tank. I originally had three yo-yos in there. I got them to take care of a BAAAD pond snail outbreak. They took care of the snails within days, but were a bad fit with the tetras (too aggressive)
and they were holy terrors on the plants. What they didn't dig up they chewed holes in.

Cheers,
Batch

Yep, I agree wholeheartedly with this. :D The fish look to be in superb condition.

i like the castles and your kuhli looks big and fat....lol....you are right it would be hard to grow plants in there...besides the low light, i think the yo-yo's would just trash them.....looks good to me....if you want to add some stuff for the kuhli's you could throw in a few fake chunks of grass....

Nice loaches!

So, how does the social life of a large yoyo pack look like? Is there an obvious Alpha? Is there more of a hierarchy?

Yeah, there is one who is definately the king - also the largest. One that is slightly smaller challenges him/her every so often and gets his/her butt kicked. Disputes are interesting to watch as the fighting loaches grey out
completely.
