loach homes part3 (last one I promise)

Okay one more,
Not strictly a loach tank, but there are some happy Khulis and Sids living there. 75gal, Rena XP3, 9W UV sterilizer, triple fluoresent lights, CO2 injection with diffuser and 1/10 HP Chiller (I gave up on fans-too much evaporation). Living here are 15 tetras (rummynose, cardinal and serpae), 2 rainbows (threadfin and praecox), one
clown pleco, 2 honey gouramis, 2 SAEs, 7 Khuli and 4 Sid Loaches.

These guys live in a cave system (okay, a couple of rocks piled together)
at the front of the tank. There is always a couple swimming around and
usually if you look into thier cave you see 2-4 little loach heads sticking out. The black Khulis seem to dance more than the striped ones...

Hard to get a picture of these guys, as they never stand still very long. I only have 4 right now, but I plan to get a few more if I can ever find them for a reasonable price. When I do see these guys they are usually
$20-25. I picked up these four one sale for only $17 each.

Great! You got the picture-posting sussed :D

Nice looking tank and great fish. Those white spots on stuff....do you find they increase in number? I don't know what they are, but have a piece of bogwood that has them on it.

Martin.

Hey Martin,
Those white spots are freshwater limpets. As far as I know, they aren't
hurting anything... You can manually crush them if you can't stand the sight of them.

Hey tattooedgamini,
This is my "showtank" - certaintly the one I've spent the most time (and $$) on.
what is the name of that pink and purple flowery looking plant? it's really nice(is it hard to maintain?)...
That is a red tiger lotus. Once I started adding CO2 to my system, it grew pretty well.

Most things I've tried have done well, except for some of the "ground cover" grass like plants (microswords, clovers, etc) - just not enough light. Anyway, they also like a lot of light - I'm using one 10,000 K bulb and two flora sun bulbs. The only thing to remember about these guys is that they have two kinds of leaves - the underwater ones and lilly pads. If you let them establish the
lilly pads, that is all they will produce, and then they will quickly take over the tank - blocking the light for everything else! When they send up the
shoots to the surface, cut them off if you want to keep it underwater.

so that's how that works? I've got three banana plants and one stays underwater while the other two are doing the lily pad thing. I don't mind one or two lily pad leaves at a time, but I'm worried about them taking over. I'll try a good prune!

Yeah, keep em trimmed. Once they know where the surface is it seems they speed up growth and shoots can grow almost all the way up to the surface in just a couple days. I have a green tiger lotus, and at one point it literally occupied almost half of my 75g tank... heres a pic... and those are inches not cm...
