right this is about an ID for a loach

went to one of the fish shops near me and saw a bunch of Borneo Scooters/Cheni. There was one guy in the pack (sadly only one) that had dark striped markings across the back and looked in budy shape to the standard BS but the head was more pointed and raised and the side fins over laped majorly.

Sort of looked like Hemimyzon formosanum in the index. Any ideas?????

Hi nuvolari and welcome to LOL. Because there are so many species out there it's hard to be specific, but a best guess might be this:

This is Gastromyzon ocellatus which sometimes comes in mixed with Gastromyzon ctenocephalus, although it doesn't exactly fit your head shape description. This is G. ctenocephalus:

Now these come in from Borneo. If you're saying that the other fish were chenis, do you mean these?

Now these come from China, which means any contaminant mixed in will be something else entirely. I would hazard a guess at Sinogastromyzon wui:

well what makes it hard is the tanks are only natural lighting! So a you dont get to see any colors in the fins!!! (which i truely hate)

The last guy in the photos looks like the little beasty because the head shape is so different to the rest and the fins overlap so much!

If it had been a whole shipment i would have plenty!

thanx martin.

I have two Sinogastromyzon wui. They are interesting hillstreams but tend to be a little shy. Mine eat primarily bloodworms and sometimes brine shrimp.
