What am I?

About a year ago, I noticed an odd-looking creature in a tank full of Chinese Algae Eaters at a local petsmart. I wasn't sure what it was, but I wanted it anyway... so i took it home and did some research.

He was a horse-face/horsehead loach.

Fastforward to two weeks ago. I started having some problems with my tank and the loach died. I was upset because I hadn't seen any horsehead loaches for sale anywhere in the area and i was pretty attached to the little guy.

Three days after he died, the same petsmart got a shipment of horsehead loaches in as part of their "managers special/opportunity buy" fish. I went to pick out a new loach and i noticed something that wasn't a horsehead loach in the tank.

I got my replacement loach (who isn't nearly as friendly as the old one, but i'm sure he'll come around) and the new unidentified guy... but haven't been able to find any information on what the little guy is.

Hopefully someone here will know... here's some pictures:

Well first thing we can be sure of is it's a Nemacheiline loach. I can tell from the other fish that this one is really tiny and that makes ID-ing it more difficult because these fish often change a lot from this size to adulthood.

Most likely suspects I think would be :

It's possible that it could be a juvenile Nemacheilus masyai. These loaches are good at blending in with the substrate around them.

He does look a lot like Nemacheilus masyai... Thanks!

I'll try to update pictures as he grows :)

Hi :) I don't live too far from you! I checked out your page - may have to get some male guppies from you if you've still got some. I've just got one lonely little guy left.

Know anyone that has a cheap 75 in the area? Doesn't need to hold water!

I prefer things that don't live in water, but much to my boyfriend's dismay, the fishtanks (for the lizards to watch) are beginning to take over as well.
