I have just had an email from a friend who has just got an email from their fish supplier stating that they now have
Laser Loach available
I have asked them to ask for a photo but was wondering if anyone on here had heard of this name being used for any species of Loach

Nope! Nothing shows up on a search either.

Not sure on laser, but the lesser loach is known as one of the many Lepidocephalichthys species out there and maybe this loach is this name in format.

I think it's more of a
Asian spelling, Helen.

Just a guess, but that could be a sumo with the bright "laser" orange and or yellow stripes.

Yeah, I wondered if the name had something to do with bright color.

It's a fact.
Spelling mistakes happen when international export and imports conduct the best possible solution with names.

arent Asians humans? so Europeans dont make any mistakes of their own?
Fact or not, we are all humans and it is not right to single out Asians when it comes to this.

Yes we all make mistakes, no matter where we are from.
Since this is a Asian fish we have the right to question what is being imported.

The ones that came into our LFS were listed by the supplier as "Loach Laser Reg., Tuberoschistura Reg." When they arrived about three weeks ago, they appeared (to my untrained eye) to be Yunnanilus brevis.
Of course, that's not to say I'm correct about the ID or that your Laser Loach will be the same since we're on different continents.

Hope someone more experienced at identifying loaches than I am will see them soon and positively ID them.

Of course you have the right. But don't question it in such a way which gives the impression that only Asians make mistakes.
