Is silverware ok for weighting? I thought most metals were bad for tanks, or was that just pennies?

Most silverware is stainless steel, perfectly fine for tanks. Its not in there long term either.

Copper is very toxic for loaches. I doubt that a single penny will leak enough copper to cause problems, but copper piping certainly can lead to disasters.

they like zuchinni too. Skin and all. Just pop a piece in the microwave for a minute or 2.
And I use a suction with the plastic nub thingy. I just stick the zuchinni onto the suction.

Neat vids! I've been doing the cucumber/zucchini thing too, on the back of a spoon like that, and they love it. I find the weight of the spoon keeps everything from floating, so i dont have to cook the zucchini. Now the only trick is trying to find the spoon later once they've pushed it around the tank

the spoon is stainless steel and it has been working fine for 3 years!
you never know what nasty things are on the skin of the cucumber. i wouldn't want to introduce anything nasty to the tank so i cut it off. imagine how many dirty hands touched the cucumber before you bought it.
silverware is usually removed after they finish eating.

High class fish, getting silverware to eat with
Food grade stainless steel ought to be fishsafe for as long as it is in the tank. I have found some a few years after the kids outgrew the 'dig in the garden with a kitchen spoon' phase, and these would no longer qualify as 'aquarium safe'.

I agree copper is probably one of the worse metals to have present in the tank. But my house is plummed all with copper and it hasnt been an issue with the loaches, atleast in the last couple years I have not lost a one.
