Yasuhikotakia lecontei?

Post by Martin Thoene » Fri Aug 24, 2007 8:20 pm

...or something else. Picked up this fish shop returnee today. Harold's had him for quite a while and the prvious owner said he got him from Harold. Harold believes it was a contaminant in with the Y. caudipunctata he had in a while back.

I got these pictures while it was still floating in the bag.

Harold says they guy said it was well behaved with other fish and he's noticed no aggressive tendencies while it's been in the shop tank.

Real nice find, Martin.

Any more of these Grr's photo and I may plunge myself....I've been watching 4" really great looking tigers (could not ID for certain but likely berdmorei) for three months knowing I cannot bring them home...but if you are not afraid maybe I should not be either...

I would say Yasuhikotakia lecontei, especially with the added notes on his/her behavior and the lack of a aggressive nature.

Lovely specimen! 8)

Beautiful specimen! 8) I would also concur with Y. lecontei. I think the number of branched dorsal rays fits, and there looks to be the beginnings of a dark blotch at the caudal peduncle, plus the fish is of a more slender build.

How big is the fish? Was curious cause at around 3 inches or so my Lecontei or what I think is that, still had light black stripes? Now there aren't visible stripes really. Mine was a contaminant in Helodes. Its very defensive of territory but other wise fine.
