When loaches attack
How can i stop my chain loaches from attacking my 3 spot gourami? it has love bites all over it.
well i DID have all of that but the admin deleted it!! so i figured it was too long! Why did he do that? im jsut trying to get help.
2x2x1 tank 15 gals. 7 chain loaches that i have just bought, they were more energetic and vicious than my last 6 that died of white spot. They keep chasing the 3-spot around as he goes past, but leave the platy fry alone and the cori. they try to suck or groom the 3 spot gourami and he seems aggitated by it. i noticed a white spot on one of the loaches fins so added medication and the temp is at 31C. when i woke up the gourami had red marks on it, i dunno if the medication made them all flip out but they have been chasing him for a week now so probably not, just never seen any damage till last night. I have 1 drift wood arch in the middle and 2 lava rocks with holes thru them. the last lot of loaches used the holes but these guys arent and are just searching the sand constantly. the last lot jsut used to sunbathe and got on well with the population.
Admin if there is something wrong with this then jsut TELL me in a post underneath so i dont have to write it out a third time.

Hi 00fil00 and welcome to Loaches Online.
I think the problem is that this tank is too small to house the 3-spot gourami, which is a relatively slow moving fish. Your dwarf chain loaches (Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki) are naturally inquisitive and there is nowhere for the gourami to retreat to. I would suggest getting a larger tank for the 3-spot, as it can attain quite a good size. Also, Y. sidthimunki tend to shoal in midwater, rather than on the bottom like many other loach species, and so they are going to be curious about fish in the upper regions of the tank.
I'm not sure why your previous post was deleted by one of the moderation team (I did not see the post myself), but hopefully you will now get the answers that you need.

hi and thanks for tryin to help. Its just strange cuz the last 6 were so well behaved and stayed at the bottom. I dont suppose there is any way to calm them is there. id rather take all 7 back than buy another tank/filter/setup just for "glottis", he was perfectly happy being king of his relm till these guys showed, hes only about 5 - 6cm and has only grown maybe an inch since ive known him in about a year.

I can't imagine why anyone would have deleted an informative post 00fil00. Not usual practice here.
I agree with Emma that the tank is likely too small for any of the fish to feel they have their own territory which may lead to the aggression issues you're seeing. Hard call. If you want to keep the kubs the gourami will suffer. If you want to keep the gourami a slightly larger tank would still be wise.
Best of luck with the spot treatment too. Make sure you treat for several days after all spots are gone or you will only see it return again, and possibly in a treatment resistant form.
