B. histrionica "Ataram"

I got these photos yesterday of the B. histrionica "Ataram" that I recentley got from Emma's. They are still very skittish and they are sharing a 21 gallon tank with 6 Emperor Botia which are under going levimasole treatments before going into the 7ft tank.

Are they definitely Ataran River 'histrionicas'? They look like Irrawaddy histrionica to me.

I can only go by what Emma told me and she was assured by her supplier that they are Ataran River 'histrionicas'.

Great pics, MD. 8)

Yeah, Steve, this particular supplier really knows his stuff and is into his loaches and catfish in a big way. He only had 4 of these specimens from the Ataran, which he offered first refusal to me. All of a good TL.

Hi Emma

I've pm'd you about this. The Ataran that I have seen havent had the golden tinge to the body but of course this could be due to size or just variability.

The golden tinge isnt as visible in the flesh, the camera seemed to pick it up a lot but it could well be the water in the tank, there are a couple of peices of bogwood in there that are leaching tanins and the water is a nice yellow colour also the lighting isnt the brightest on that tank so it could be a combination of factors.

They do actually look a lot whiter than that :?

May well be Ataran then, the tinge can vary as you say anyway. The markings on some of them are reminiscent of Ataran but some also look like Irrawaddy. Anyway, whatever they are they are nice fish!!
