Can't find Levamisole and need some suggestions

Post by linarite » Thu Oct 11, 2007 12:03 am

One of my loaches has Skinny Diease and I can't locate a source for Levamisole here in Texas. Seems the product has fallen out of use in my state. I have checked several online sources and the price has been outrageous. Is there another product on the market that I can use to treat my fish without having to take out a loan for the meds? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks.

Look for products containing Praziquantal. This has been used with similar results in treating loach wasting syndrome or "skinny disease." A lot of keepers have had luck with this product.

Hi linarite,
Here's what's in the levamisole article. The links are active in the article if you'd rather go there to just click on them. As for pricing, I don't know what it is now. Been a while since I bought some.

Where Can I Get Levamisole HCl?

Levamisole HCl is sold under various names by different companies. Be sure to carefully investigate the product to insure its safety for use in aquatic animals.

Levasole

soluble pig wormer, mix with water

Prohibit

powdered drench, mix with water

Tramisol

sheep bolus--US

Ripercol

soluble powder for sheep--Australia
'Ripercol Vet" or "Levaject Vet" in Denmark

Levam-30

oral powder--India

Levacide

UK injectable

Avitrol Plus

liquid bird worming syrup (also contains Praziquantel), add to food, or directly to tank

There are many others. This is only a representative listing. To locate other products, please take advantage of Google or Yahoo search engines online.

Jeffers pet in Alabama has it. See http://www.jefferspet.com. I don't know what you consider expensive, but I thought their price was reasonable considering that you get a life-time supply of the stuff for under $20 bucks.

We bought ours online from Valley Vet. It costs $13.49 for a 20.17gm bottle.

The best part is the FREE SHIPPING. :)

Levamisole at Valley Vet

I used 3/4 tsp. of the powder to make my stock solution. There is almost 1/4 cup of the powder left in the bottle. It expires in 4/09.

Thanks so much to everyone. I was looking at cost plus something close to 50.00 for shipping. These are much better alternatives.
