I was in petsmart buying some frozen bloodworms when I saw these guys.
I want to do some research on them before I buy them but which pangio is that?
Pangio oblonga ?
It was black all over and doesn't look like p. oblonga from the species index.

Probably P. oblonga. I was going to say P. javanicus, but of course they're now oblonga... I've seen these before, and you're right, the ones on the species index don't really appear as dark as they can in the shops. That said, they aren't exactly "black" either.

I have some of those from Petsmart.. they call them black kuhlis there (I know this has nothing to do with the scientific name), and it was the same price you mentioned. I've had them for 3 months now. I started out with 3 but one died in an ich outbreak. These last two are doing quite well. I have them in a tropical 20 gal with some neons, corys, a betta, and 2 Otos.
At one point I had to move them from one tank to another and couldn't get the second one until the next day (I really didn't want to tear the whole tank apart!). The first one just went NUTS until I got his mate back with him, swimming constantly in circles the entire night. I felt so bad for him! He immediately calmed down and went back to normal once I got his friend back to him, and now they are both doing great in there.

Hey,
I picked up a total of seven of these guys (in two groups) from Petsmart
for $1.50 each. I'm usually pretty nervous about Petsmart livestock as the
conditions they keep them in are not that great (high nitrates, etc.). Anyway, I QTed them for 2X normal, and had a 100% survival rate. They
seem to be more hardy than the striped ones and more active. There is always a couple of them out rooting around in my tank. Assuming you have room get a bunch of them.
