I just got 4 more neons today. They have already settled in ard are schooling with te other 3. They look so nice wit their beautiful red and blue coloring...

I am sure they are a happy group. When I added my new comers, everyone said howdy and the group is always together.

Not quite worried about this I just want to know so I can prevent this in the future- Something odd- anyway I added the neons right so I take them home, and acclimate them to the water. I had 7 neons total. Now I did get some small ones (like 2) and I also had larger ones (not that much bigger) The small ones were not getting much food so I took a flake and sunk it to the bottom for them. I made sure that they ate it. I added some new caves being carefull not to pin one of them under- and I didn't. I counted and saw only 6. So I check in the caves, filter, under the caves- trying to locate the body. I checked all around the tank in case he jumped- no fishy. Then I thought my cats might have had a little treat. I then did a water change in a coule of days. I finished, and that is when I noticed another one- gone. This is also when I found my betta flopping around on the floor- thank you neons...heh..heh... Now I am down to 5 neons and I still want to know what happened to them- did the others eat them? Did he disintegrate faster than I could find him? My cats arent usually in my room where the tank is- but it is possible. I guess I am wondering what might have happened to him.

Oh yes, I still have 1 of the small ones- only 1 is gone.

I find Neons extremely difficult, because they are overbred, weak and sickly. When I add new ones I expect to lose half. I take extended measures when adding them. First they go in a dark, quiet q tank for a month to give them time to adjust to a new home. I drip acclimate them so they get used to my water. After a month, I turn off the lights to their new tank, feed the residents and drip acclimate my neons to the new tank.

My last addition was successful and I didn't lose anyone, but I expected to lose my "jumbo" 1/2" neons for a week, but they all survived. They moved in with adult neons who really are as big as neons get. They all hang out together and the small ones are growing fast.

Usually when I lose fish, I don't find the body. I have shrimp and snails, and they are a quick, effective disposal team. I used to blame my cats, but they are actually not eery interested in my fish and haven't even bothered the jumpers.
