Hmmm I'm thinking he meant 6 fish was good to start with.... you dont want to add all the fish at once as this will cause an ammonia spike, you should add a few more fish every few weeks... but 6 fish isn't alot for a 30 gallon.

can you take back the tiger barbs? they can be nippy little buggers... i have heard that if you keep them in groups of 6or more it will displace there agression a bit. but i personally have not have them.

Get 3-4 more neons there small, dont create much waste and need to be in schools of ATLEAST 5 or More. so that will be fine.

Get some fish for the bottom of the tank like Cory's

how about something like
8 zebra danio's
6 tetra's
5 corydoras
5 otos (or you can get a few of something else - otto's are small but maybe 3 platies or something)

you could find a medium size fish that you like and have that as your center peice, maybe a dwarf gourami. instead of the otto's

Just find what you like come up with a stocking scheme post it on here, i find most of the people on here are really helpfull and most of the pro's have had pretty much every fish combination so they know what works... good luck.

Ps if you want barbs there are other ones that are better in community tanks... such as gold or cherry barbs.

MAYBE add a male Beta for color. I have 100g 6ft long tank and I almost always have 1 male and a couple females and they never have fin nipped. Anyway my point is you MAY be able to add 1 male if you dont have alot of fish with long flowing fins.
