desmocaris trispinosa

Post by ch.koenig » Fri Dec 04, 2009 7:18 am

hi all
just some pictures of trispinosa desmocaris = nigerian "levitation-shrimp" translated from the german or "guinea swamp shrimp" in english, which suggests a false origin. are they rare in your countries? does anybody have experience in keeping?

the first ones a gave after some weeks to an friend for breeding. he has lost them-just one female resting. now I'm waiting for the next specimen in a week or two

Hi ch.koenig

With my water tank, Neocaridina denticulata spreads and continues alternation of generations.
It is the fresh water shrimp which Neocaridina denticulata is called south marsh shrimp, and inhabit Japan and the East Asia.
When they do alternation of generations in a water tank, the individual of a rare color sometimes appears.

Biotope is put in the porch facing south from 2002.
It is left without a feeding without changing water.
My work is only to supply the water which decreased by evaporation.
It is more than water temperature 30 degrees Celsius and around pH 10s, but they are a survivable extremely tough shrimp.

hi odyssey
very colourful indeed. thanks for the pictures. I have different species, hard to identify. N. fernandoi (?), c. cf heteropoda with smokey-blue variation and so on. I gave up to pass them to the specialist for id and just enjoy. as c. japonica. red fire and white pearl (about 600 at the moment) which I'm selling most, specially the ones with gold-dust on the back.
but desmocaris are special: a group floating slowly in the calm water... yesss, that's it.
cheers charles

hi all
some weeks ago I bought some for a 25 lt tank, knowing that a big quantity in a 80 lt tank with smooth water movement would do better. I hadn't time enough to realise my plans as I found a female with eggs, passing in the depth of that tank down in the last row, right in the corner.
as pictures are rare - I haven't found others yet - here some to have a first look

gestation period is 5 weeks, 6-10 eggs are normal. would give a good stock to start with
cheers charles
