Hi, i purchased some shrimp about 3 months ago, when i saw them i asked if they were Neocaridina Heteropoda and told yes, they were natural coloured cherry shrimp... This was a maidenhead aquatics store so assumed the staff knew their stock...

Now i'm not so sure. Can anyone lend a hand?

I think they are actually Grass shrimp Palaemonetes paludosus, does anyone else think so, if they are, are they bad to keep with small fish and hill stream loaches?

Sorry for the poor quality images i didn't have the slr to hand.

EDIT:

The shrimps were on display again, so grabbed the SLR, here is a clearer shot...

They look almost like a type of long arm shrimp. If so, I would at least keep an eye on your fish. The shrimp may be an opportunist.

They remind me a bit of Macrobrachium lanchesteri also, AKA Glass shrimp or riceland prawn?

I've seen the shrimp fending off fish, but not out right attacking them, infact the Hillstreams charge them on sight if they get on their rocks.

hmm, not able to help with an ID but we had some odd coloured ones in with our Cherry Shrimps too. We just came to the conclusion that they were genetic throwbacks to a none red/pink cherry shrimp.

This looks like a juvenile long arm shrimp to me.

A good food for these are ramshorn and trumpet snails which they readily eat.

Looks like a glass shrimp to me. My clown loaches ate all mine.
